The 2025 Ram 1500 Tungsten is turning heads with its remarkable 3.0-liter Hurricane High Output (H/O) Straight-Six Turbo engine, which just earned a spot on the prestigious 2024 Wards 10 Best Engines & Propulsion Systems list. This marks the eighth consecutive year one of our  Stellantis engines from Landmark Dodge of Morrow has made the list and the second time the 3.0-liter Hurricane twin-turbo engine has been recognized.

We knew many drivers would wonder if a six-cylinder engine would pack the necessary punch, but this accolade proves it wholeheartedly can. Micky Bly, Head of Global Propulsion Systems at Stellantis, expressed excitement over this achievement, stating, "Our Hurricane twin-turbo engines are designed to deliver an ideal mix of power, efficiency, and versatility. Whether for off-road adventures, smooth highway cruising, or heavy-duty towing, these engines enhance every aspect of the driving experience."

The 3.0-liter Hurricane H/O engine, standard in the 2025 Ram 1500 Tungsten, exemplifies this commitment. With 540 horsepower and 521 lb-ft of torque, it offers the strength needed for any challenge. Paired smartly with a TorqueFlite eight-speed automatic transmission, it provides smooth shifts while balancing fuel economy, performance, and drivability.

This award-winning engine highlights Stellantis' engineering expertise and cements the Ram 1500 Tungsten’s reputation as a top choice for truck enthusiasts seeking power and refinement. The 2025 Ram 1500 features two standout options from the Hurricane Twin Turbo family: the 3.0-liter Standard Output and High Output engines. This powertrain embodies everything wonderful and new in the auto realm while holding true to diehard roots.

These six-cylinder powerhouses dominate the light-duty truck segment, delivering more horsepower, torque, and fuel efficiency than traditional V-8s and other turbocharged six-cylinders. At the core of the Hurricane engine is a deep-skirt cast-aluminum block, paired with a structural aluminum alloy oil pan. Known as the most powerful engine ever produced by Ram, it features cross-bolted steel main bearing caps to secure its durable rotating assembly.

Components such as the forged steel crankshaft and connecting rods add durable strength, while deck-plate honing ensures the engine operates efficiently by refining the cylinder bore shape. Stellantis engineers incorporated cutting-edge technology to maximize performance while reducing emissions. Some of the key innovations include:

  • Dual High-Flow Turbochargers: Optimized to deliver rapid throttle response, each turbocharger feeds three cylinders, ensuring smooth acceleration and enhanced efficiency.
  • Plasma Transfer Wire Arc Coating: This advanced coating in the cylinder bores creates a low-friction wear surface, improving overall engine performance and fuel efficiency.
  • High-Pressure Direct Fuel Injection: The 5,075 psi (350 bar) fuel injection system provides precise fuel delivery, enhancing combustion and power output.
  • Water-to-Air Charge Cooler: With a dedicated cooling circuit, this cooler helps maintain optimal engine temperatures for sustained high performance.

These technologies ensure that the Hurricane engines deliver impressive power and torque with outstanding efficiency. They set a new standard in the light-duty truck segment, offering modern truck enthusiasts a blend of performance and advanced technology.

Stellantis is not only focused on engine innovation but also on the long-term goal of sustainability. Their Dare Forward 2030 strategy targets a carbon net-zero future by 2038. The plan involves integrating new technologies and improving operations across the board, from expanding the BEV lineup to enhancing hybrid systems. Stellantis is committed to delivering eco-friendly vehicles without sacrificing performance, reliability, or excitement.
