The Ram truck line has always been praised and sought after by customers here at Landmark Dodge of Morrow! Its capability, power, and commanding presence have led to numerous awards and accolades. The 2025 Ram 1500 Crew Cab Tungsten 4x4 was the topic of the Motor Trend team’s latest blog, where they put it through a more demanding testing regimen to see what it’s got. The esteemed line has now bid farewell to the legendary Hemi V8s and replaced it with a choice of two Hurricane 3.0-liter twin-turbo inline-six powertrains.
Hauling, towing, and navigating steep grades were the name of the game during these strenuous sessions, along with being a reliable transport vehicle for a full crew. Even with its 5,960-lb weight, the 1500 Crew Cab Tungsten High Output launched off the line and reached 60 mph in just 4.4 seconds. 24-way seats, a sunroof, and the 1,200-watt Klipsch surround-sound audio system are a few of the sweet additives that add to the bulk. The truck then went on to charge through the quarter mile in 13.0 seconds at 105.0 mph.
This earned it a place at the high-performance table of the fastest combustion-powered pickups the publication had ever tested. Beyond the raw numbers, there’s a very emotional connection during the entire driving experience. One of the very experienced Motor Trend crew claimed that they were not expecting that much thrill launching such a large pickup, as you can hold the gas pedal down and then drop the brake at about 3,200 rpm. Then you really experience a vivid sense of flight, with the best times nailed down in Normal and 4Auto.
As much fun as the group had complete straight-line blasts, it was the handling and braking that impeccably stole the show! The crew’s best stopping distance from 60 mph was 133 feet, with the brake pedal's long travel proving to be incredibly useful. When poised and ready to go on the skidpad, the Ram 1500 Tungsten returned a best average lateral acceleration figure of .76 g. Another notable accomplishment was the brake pedal’s ability to modulate and remain free from ABS territory.
A few of the test’s best laps were run with the Ram Tungsten set in Sport mode, with the traction control switched off. Setting the drivetrain to 4WD Auto provides a very powerful feel, and the stability control’s constraints offer an appreciated sense of grounding. The team from The Drive rendered the new 1500 “mighty and memorable”. They immediately took to the new front end, which is more focused as the headlight signatures have a sharper quality than before.
The base Tradesman now gets an 8.4-inch display, with the option of stepping up to an improved 12-inch screen with higher resolution on most trucks. The engine’s closed-deck blog is constructed of lightweight aluminum, which allows it to weigh about 90 lbs less than the Hemi. The air assist on the coil-spring rear suspension makes the ride ideally cushy, and the rear axle articulation was very impressive on a tight dirt path. There’s an even more optimized off-road machine coming soon in the form of the Ram 1500 RHO! This “slightly more pedestrian” Ram still handles a large variety of terrain with considerable grace and is consistently well-thought-out.
