Rugged Redesign: 2026 Jeep Compass Goes Big—And We Mean Big

Here at Landmark Dodge of Morrow, we know our customers appreciate rugged vehicles with real Jeep heritage—and the Compass is still very much alive and kicking. While some thought Jeep might phase it out a few years ago, the Compass instead received a refresh in 2023 and another update for 2024. It’s still going strong for the 2025 model year as we gear up for the all-new, third-generation version expected to break cover soon.

A First Glimpse at the Future Compass

Jeep has started teasing the next-gen Compass, and from what we can see, it’s going to stay true to the brand’s tough and adventurous DNA. While official details are still under wraps—like what kind of engines it’ll offer or exactly how off-road capable it’ll be—Jeep fans can expect a more muscular, refined design and some serious updates under the hood.

A Quick Look Back

For 2025, the Jeep Compass continues to serve as the brand’s entry-level SUV. First introduced in 2007, it got a major redesign in 2016, which included the introduction of the Trailhawk trim. Now, the next-generation model will be developed under Stellantis, Jeep’s parent company, which means big changes are ahead.

And despite being one of the older models in the lineup, the Compass is proving its staying power. Last year, sales jumped 16%, and during the first quarter of 2025, it was Jeep’s only vehicle to post a sales increase. In fact, it's currently Jeep’s third-best-selling model in the U.S., just behind the iconic Wrangler.

What Will the 2026 Compass Look Like?

From the teaser photos, it’s clear the new Compass will be larger and more commanding. A redesigned front end with Jeep’s signature seven-slot grille remains, but now it’s flanked by a full-width LED light bar and rectangular headlights. The profile looks more upright and modern, with a sleek windshield and sculpted rear glass.

The back end gets attention too, with redesigned LED taillights and bold "Performance LED" branding. Inside, we don’t have official images yet, but we do know the interior will carry the “Since 1941” branding, hinting at its heritage. Given its shared platform with the stylish Peugeot 3008, we expect a clean, modern cabin that prioritizes functionality.

Platform and Size

The 2026 Compass will ride on Stellantis’s new STLA Medium architecture. This platform is highly versatile, supporting hybrid, plug-in hybrid, and all-electric powertrains. It was first used in the Peugeot 3008 and will also underpin models like the Opel Grandland and Citroën C5 Aircross.

This new Compass will likely be longer and roomier than the current model, which measures 173.4 inches in length. The STLA platform allows for up to 192.9 inches, meaning more space inside and possibly a more comfortable ride for passengers.

What Will Power It?

The current Compass is powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine making 200 horsepower, but that’s expected to change. Jeep has already confirmed that the 2026 Compass will offer a broader range of powertrains, including hybrid, plug-in hybrid, and all-electric versions.

European counterparts like the Peugeot 3008 already offer mild-hybrid and EV setups with up to 320 horsepower. While Jeep hasn’t said which options will come to the U.S., we expect more performance, more efficiency, and more choices to suit every Georgia driver—from the daily commuter to the weekend adventurer.

Off-Road Capabilities: Trailhawk Lives On

If you love to hit Georgia’s backroads, you’ll be happy to know the Trailhawk trim is likely sticking around. The 2025 model already includes serious off-road gear like a lifted suspension, all-terrain tires, skid plates, tow hooks, and Jeep’s Active Drive Low 4x4 system with a 20:1 crawl ratio.

While there’s a chance that 4x4 might only be offered on the EV version of the Trailhawk, Jeep will almost certainly make sure this Compass is ready for real off-road action—especially with its tougher-looking design.

When Can You See It in Person?

Jeep plans to officially unveil the 2026 Compass this spring. Although it was originally slated for a 2027 debut, changes in leadership at Stellantis appear to have sped up the timeline. Production will start in Italy at the Melfi plant, and we expect U.S. arrivals to begin in early 2026. There was also talk about U.S. production moving to Canada, which could help with availability and pricing down the line.

Final Thoughts

If you’re in the market for a versatile compact SUV with real Jeep DNA, the upcoming 2026 Compass is shaping up to be worth the wait. With fresh looks, new tech, and a broader range of powertrains, it’s a major leap forward—and we can’t wait to welcome it to our showroom. Want updates as soon as they drop?
