Across the (now sweltering hot!) United States every day, more than 150 cars are stolen. While this is a statistic that is easy to think will never happen to you, all of us here at Landmark Dodge of Atlanta realize that experiencing it would drastically change your plans when you realize that you are staring at an empty parking spot! High-performing and awesome-looking cars such as the Dodge Charger and Challenger are often targeted by thieves because of their high horsepower stats, rendering them the type you want to put a “permanent digital padlock” on!
To help assist with those who would like to hold on to their prized cars and not have them driven away at the hands of a thief, Dodge announced last week the addition of a new Security Mode that limits the Hemi engine to idle speed, also making it much easier to recover a vehicle if it does suffer the misfortune of going missing. It will also be available at no extra cost and can be retroactively applied to the 2015-2021 model-year RT Scat Packs equipped with the 6.4-liter Hemi V8 and SRT Hellcats packing the supercharged 6.2-liter Hemi V8.
While it's activated, this mode limits the usually-potent V8 to idle speed, slowing it down drastically to around 2.8 horsepower and 22 lb-ft of torque. Once you are at such a low speed, if thieves even decide to take the car, catching up to them should be easy without the potential of a high-speed chase. The owner simply adds a 4-digit security code to the Uconnect infotainment that activates the new feature and helps protect the thefts that occur when crooks can replicate the radio signal from the vehicle's fob.
This new Security Mode update should be available here at Landmark and other dealers nationwide during the second quarter of 2021, providing extra reassurance that these vehicles you worked so hard to own won't go missing in the heat of the night! The 2021 Challenger is our favorite rowdy and retro-embracing muscle car that is known for being comfier than its sworn rivals. Competing with the Chevy Camaro and Ford Mustang, it actually has a very unique day-to-day driving personality. The SRT Hellcat is the version for those who desire world-class might and muster, cranking out up to 807 horsepower.
The 2021 Charger is fully loaded with loud and proud V8s, all-wheel-drive, and a very athletic stance for its size. The roomy cabin and larger truck are a few traits that give it a sense of practicality for a muscle car, and the GT AWD model now comes standard with 20-inch wheels. The Charger R/T boasts a 370-hp 5.7-liter V8 and has a great mix of features and available raw power. Adding the Driver Convenience Group provides a blind-spot monitor, rear cross-traffic alert, heated exterior mirrors, and upgraded headlights.
