Mud, Mods & Mayhem: Jeep’s Off-Road Overhaul Hits Moab

Posted at Wed, Apr 16, 2025 2:45 PM

Each spring, off-road enthusiasts from across the country make their way to Moab, Utah—a tradition going strong since the early 1960s. What started as an informal trail gathering has evolved into one of the most anticipated off-road events of the year: the Easter Jeep Safari. By the 1980s, it became a weeklong celebration of all things Jeep, and the brand has embraced it ever since.

This annual event is more than a meet-up—it’s a proving ground. Jeep uses the occasion to reveal imaginative design studies, custom accessories, and fully functional concept vehicles built to tackle Moab’s rugged terrain. All of us here at Landmark Dodge of Morrow always look forward to seeing each year’s sweet new mods and concepts.

Beyond the jaw-dropping scenery and legendary red rock trails, the Safari is also a pulse-check on where off-road innovation is headed. Each concept is packed with ideas that could shape future production models, showcasing Jeep’s willingness to experiment and listen to its most dedicated fans.

For this year’s 59th Safari, Jeep is unveiling three fresh concepts, while Mopar and Jeep Performance Parts are showcasing four additional builds, including returning fan favorites—rolling testbeds for future gear and upgrades.

Jeep Convoy Concept

Built on the Gladiator platform, this machine draws inspiration from classic military vehicles. Its rugged matte “Ghost Ops” finish and chocolate brown canvas details evoke utility, while bright aqua interior accents nod to vintage aircraft. The carbon-fiber front end and 40-inch tires reinforce its command presence.

Jeep Bug Out 4xe Concept

Minimalist overlanding at its best. Based on the Wrangler 4xe, the Bug Out features reduced weight by removing the doors and rear seats. Forged wheels and “electric jerry cans” boost its hybrid range. A hammock system replaces the rooftop tent, while a raised roofline and reshaped rear enhance function and cargo room.

Jeep Rewind Concept

The Rewind channels ‘80s flair with its rich purple finish, vintage stripes, and retro wheels. Styled to recall the CJ-7, it’s packed with nostalgic details—classic off-road lights, a throwback mobile phone, and playful pop-culture decals. Inside, bold colors and geometric patterns complete the time-warp experience.

Wrangler 4xe Blueprint Concept

This plug-in hybrid Wrangler 4xe is all about real-world customization. Blue-highlighted Jeep Performance Parts come with scannable codes for easy access. Tube doors with unique mesh covers and mismatched wheels add attitude, while 15+ production parts make it a rolling idea board for upgrades.

Wrangler 4xe Rubicon Sunchaser Concept

The Sunchaser blends adventure-ready gear with bright beach vibes. Yellow paint, black graphics, and off-grid essentials like steel fenders, an adjustable lightbar, and modular rear storage panels make it trail and campsite ready. Add rock rails, a roof rack, and trail-rated wheels—it’s built for sunshine and dirt.

Gladiator High Top Honcho Concept

Back with more vintage flair, this updated build rides on Dana 60 axles, 40-inch tires, and a refined air suspension. A retro ‘70s paint job and 18-inch Detroit Steel wheels lead the makeover, while flat steel flares, a functional roll bar, and DECKED storage boost utility. Inside: premium two-tone seats with caramel accents and Jeep embossing.

J6 Honcho Concept

Originally previewed before the Gladiator’s debut, the two-door J6 pickup returns with even more old-school charm. The screen-free interior features vintage bronze trim, blue stitching, and a sleek dash. Outside, it wears white-and-blue paint, a new roll bar with trail lights, steel bumper, winch, and bronze 37-inch wheels.
