Jeep’s Next-Gen SUV: Cherokee Successor Debuts With Hybrid Power and a New Identity

Jeep is preparing to introduce an all-new mainstream SUV, bringing cutting-edge design and advanced technology to the lineup. Set to replace the Cherokee, this highly anticipated model is already making waves, with camouflaged prototypes spotted in testing. While Jeep has yet to confirm the name, this SUV is expected to slot perfectly between the Compass and Grand Cherokee here at Landmark Dodge of Morrow .

Inspired by the Wagoneer S, Built for Adventure

The first glimpses of this upcoming SUV reveal a striking resemblance to the all-electric Wagoneer S, with bold styling cues such as sculpted wheel arches, sleek door handles, and a modern greenhouse design. Key distinctions include a reworked rear side window, a more upright tail, and a refined D-pillar—elements that contribute to its unmistakable SUV presence. While the front end remains concealed, the iconic seven-slot grille and signature headlight design can still be identified beneath the camouflage.

Compared to its predecessor, this new model appears larger, with dimensions that push it closer to the Grand Cherokee. If it shares the Wagoneer S’s 113-inch wheelbase, it’s set to offer an even more spacious and comfortable ride.

Hybrid and Gas-Powered Options First

Built on the innovative STLA Large platform, the same foundation as the Wagoneer S and Recon, this new SUV will initially launch with internal combustion and hybrid powertrain options. Spy shots confirm the presence of a traditional exhaust system, ensuring that gas-powered capability remains a priority. While an all-electric version could arrive later, Jeep is making sure drivers have multiple options to suit their needs from day one.

High-Tech Meets High Speed

The test drivers at Road & Track walked away seriously impressed with the current Wagoneer S—it’s not just fast for a Jeep; it’s fast, period. Jeep claims a blistering 3.4-second sprint to 60 mph, putting it just a tenth of a second ahead of the Hellcat-powered Grand Cherokee Trackhawk. If that number holds up in testing, the Wagoneer S will officially be the quickest factory Jeep ever built.

But speed isn’t its only strength. Packed with cutting-edge technology, this SUV offers everything from adaptive cruise control with lane-keeping to driver attention monitoring that will call you out if you start nodding off. One particularly useful feature is Dynamic Range Mapping, which constantly recalculates driving range based on the programmed navigation route—a function that, from our experience, worked quite well.

Jeep also made sure the driving experience is as intuitive as it is exhilarating. Instead of a traditional gear shifter, the Wagoneer S uses a rotary drive selector, making accidental shifts into neutral nearly impossible. Inside, digital displays dominate the cabin, catering to both driver and passengers alike. A massive 12.3-inch center touchscreen integrates with Uconnect 5, while another 12.3-inch screen sits in front of the driver with a full suite of virtual gauges. But the real conversation piece?

A third 10.25-inch interactive display for the front passenger—perfect for keeping them entertained or, more importantly, helping navigate without taking blame for any wrong turns. With its mix of staggering speed, smart tech, and a high-end cabin, the Wagoneer S is shaping up to be a game-changer for Jeep’s electric future.

Arriving Soon

Jeep has yet to reveal an official debut date, but industry buzz suggests this exciting SUV will hit the market in late 2025 as a 2026 model. With its rugged capability, hybrid efficiency, and bold new design, this Jeep is shaping up to be a game-changer in the SUV world. Buckle up—more fresh details are dropping soon!
