Jeep CG Surge All-Electric Concept Presented During SEMA 2022 Commands Off-Roader’s Undivided Attention

To state the obvious, we’re “car guys” here at Landmark Dodge of Morrow. We’re always on the hunt for sneak peeks of new concepts or vehicles to feed our obsession. This week, we avidly followed the 2022 SEMA event, and we are excited to report that Mopar showcased three new concepts this year!

Among these concepts were the Ram 1500 TRX Gold Shot, the Ram Backcountry X, and the warm and retro-rich Jeep CJ Surge. The new Ram concepts of course drew plenty of attention, but the Jeep CJ Surge also drew in many due to its charm and forward-thinking demeanor. Jeep did not disclose as many details as we wanted in their official press release, but that is par for the course for Jeep over the past two years because of the market’s drastic daily changes.

Concept vehicles often change a great deal by the time they get to production, but the initial iterations that are shown at events like SEMA are great for planting seeds and stoking engineering imagination. The staff of Hotcars.com commented that they thought the Jeep brand must be appalled by the intersection of classic off-roading spirit and the electric era now upon us, and we totally get it. That’s why we’re so excited that Jeep has spiced things up with the CJ Surge Concept to keep it up to par and make sure it feels just right for Jeep lovers everywhere.

The Jeep CJ Surge will feature a slew of amazing upgrades that we are loving. There are custom seats, a unique and playful paint job, and subtle electric blue trimmings inside to remind us of the modern power source. Have we reached the junction in history where EVs will fully replace the savvy and boulder-commanding off-road greats that drivers have conquered the outdoors with for years? Well, not quite! But this particular concept seems to be a brilliant case study to use as a base for the many electric projects that the future will undoubtedly bring.

We would bet that this drawing-board beauty is probably underpinned by the Chassis from the Wrangler, and packs a 400V electric drive module that gets power on its way to all four wheels via a custom 2-speed transfer case. Since the gearbox setup was on display during SEMA, it is a clue-in to just how seriously Jeep is looking into making off-roaders that have true long-lasting utility and purpose. The 18-inch Black Rhino solid wheels are wrapped and ready-to-go 35-inch BF Goodrich all-terrain tires, and you’re sure to crush everything in your way with Dana 44 Crate axles present on both ends.

It's always important to keep the goods on the underside of any off-road vehicle safe and sound, and this electric trail-ready pro comes with JPP Rubicon skid plates and rock rails to diligently do double duty. We guarantee that you’ll love how this concept comes with custom fender flares, and that it does not stray far from the old-school appeal that won so many followers over for Jeep from the early Willys’ history up to the very exciting present. We will keep you posted right here on the blog about any updates regarding this concept, and we hope you come down to visit us this holiday season and test drive the new or coming-soon model of your dreams!
